On August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment was added to the United States Constitution. So what is the 19th Amendment? It says: The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. Until this was added to the Constitution, women could only vote in fifteen of the forty-eight states.
