Real-life Superheroes
Every week, our Week in Rap Shout-Out Contest gives students an opportunity to win a shout out for their school in the next Week in Rap. For this week’s contest, we asked you to tell us about someone you consider a superhero. An average citizen who went above and beyond (like Wesley Autrey), a celebrity who inspires you, or even a teacher or coach who changed your life for the better. Who would you call super?
Our winner this week is Northpoint Elementary School in Bloomington, IL. Check out some of the entries we received from Mrs. Spears’ fifth grade class:
- My real-life superhero would be my mom. She’s my superhero because she loves me no matter what. She will always take care of me and look out for me. She will do almost anything for me. My mom takes care of me when I am sick and she will help me on my homework if I ask. That’s who my superhero is. — Lily K.
- One person that inspires me who I think is a superhero is my old soccer coach named Coach Ken. He always would tell me to try my best. He led our team to a championship game win, and we went on to many tournaments. Our team traveled around Southern California and got fourth place out of 1,100 teams in one tournament. He was a great coach and I will never forget him. He would always push us hard in practice and had great leadership during games. He was a very inspiring person by always encouraging others. When I made mistakes, he would always give me good pointers. Coach Ken really is a superhero. — Caden E.
- My superhero is Mrs. Spears. She is my superhero because she gave me a way to be ahead in English and Math with her suggestions and encouragement. She is also a very good teacher of all of the teachers I have worked. She is a patient teacher too. I really consider her as my favorite teacher too! — Nishitha L.
- Vin Diesel was cruising around Los Angeles on his motorcycle. Suddenly, the car in front of him caught fire, then crashed. Diesel quickly thought and went to help the kids out before they would die of smoke inhalation. After that, Diesel helped the adults out. Diesel got them out unharmed and to safety. This was such a great deed. It happened in late 2002, more than 12 years ago. Diesel will be remembered for his actions. — Clayton K.
- My superhero is my great grandpa, Lorenzo Cervantes. He served in the first Special Forces, also called Devil’s Brigade, in WWII. Lorenzo was one of the first scouts to lead his troops. Lorenzo was never wounded at war. He’s 92 years old and still is running his own lawn business on his own! — Zach H.
- My real life superhero would have to be J.K. Rowling. She is the author of the Harry Potter book series. When she could not pay her bills and the government had to pay them and she was trying to support her family, J.K. Rowling came up with Harry Potter. Since Harry Potter was a HUGE success, she is one of the most rich women in Britain. J.K. Rowling is even richer than the Queen! — Lauren N.
- My real life hero is a little girl named Paige. Paige was 5 years old when she died of neuroblastoma last year in March. I know her from her older sister, Delaney, who is one of my best friends. Paige is a hero because she was such a fighter with living much longer than she was expected to and she inspired me to help others in need. I started donating to charity and really trying to make a difference after I met her. I don’ t know what I would do about others in need if she hadn’t moved to Bloomington, IL. — Hayley B.
- Someone I consider a superhero is my fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Spears. She is an AMAZING teacher. When I walked into her class the first day, she smiled, waved, joked, and laughed! She’s silly, but also serious. She calls us ladles and jellyspoons. Most of all, I will never forget her, my classmates, and what she taught me. She is my hero. — Skye F.
- I think that Taylor Swift is a real life superhero. I think that because she inspires people with a lot of things. On Christmas she sent a bunch of presents to her fans. She goes out of her way to do things for other people. She is a great person. — Meg M.
